R22 Replacement

R22 Replacement – Does this affect me?

R22 was the most common refrigerant used in air conditioning systems as it was easy to produce and worked reliably in any air conditioning system. R22 is still found in older equipment. As a CFC, it is being phased out to make way for refrigerants with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential).

This phase out is well underway with a ban on the use of virgin R22 from January 1st 2010 with a total phase out of the use of recycled or reclaimed R22 for maintenance and repairs by December 31st 2014.
If your equipment is over 10 years old it almost certainly contains R22 and from this point the availability of materials to repair these systems will become more unreliable. We can provide you with honest, impartial advice on your existing equipment to help you decide if a repair is economically viable or whether a new more energy efficient system will provide a more cost effective investment.

“They don’t make them like they used to” is true, they now make them better! A new inverter system will use dramatically less energy to do the same job, giving a quick payback time when compared to your old model.
However, we recognise the fact that the financial budget may not be readily available to replace equipment immediately, therefore, Loop Air Conditioning can advise you on using a new “drop-in” refrigerant to simply replace the R22 refrigerant at a significant saving.

Please get in touch to discuss R22 Replacement in more detail, where we can arrange a site visit, appraise the equipment and advise you of all the options available.
