R22 Phase Out and HFC Phase Down is a CFC gas that can cause damage to the ozone layer. For many years it was the most common refrigerant used in air conditioning systems. There is now a complete ban on the use of R22 Phase Out and HFC Phase Down, which has been replaced with refrigerants with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential).
The ban on the use of R22 Phase Out and HFC Phase Down came into force on January 1st 2010, with a total phase out on the use of recycled or reclaimed R22 Phase Out and HFC Phase Down for maintenance and repairs completed by December 31st 2014. Equipment over 10 years old will have almost certainly contained R22 Phase Out and HFC Phase Down.
